Itinerary

DAY 1 Sand Dunes to Ancient Monastery
We will leave Ulaanbaatar in the morning and drive to Elsen Tasarkhai. This area features 80 kilometer-long sand dunes surrounded by woody hills and wide steppe. We will trek along the dunes before driving further to the city of Kharkhorin. This is where the ancient capital of the Mongol Empire used to be located.

In Kharkhorin, we will visit the oldest existing Mongolian monastery, Erdene Zuu, and the only remnant of the ancient Mongolian capital: a stone turtle lying nearby.

Stay overnight in a ger camp. Lunch and Dinner
DAY 2 Tuvkhun Monstery and Waterfall
In the morning, we will leave Kharkhorin and drive to one of Mongolia's oldest Buddhist monasteries, the Tuvkhun Monastery. This set of temples was established in 1648 by Zanabazar, the first spiritual head of Mongolian Buddhism.

From the monastery, we will drive further to Ulaan Tsutgalan, a famous 10 meter wide and 20 meter high waterfall in the middle of the Orkhon Valley.

Stay overnight in a ger camp. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner
DAY 3 Taikhar Rock at Tsetserleg
From the Orkhon Valley, we will drive to Tsetserleg, the capital of the Arkhangai province. Although a tiny town, Tsetserleg has a lot to offer its visitors: the Zaya Monastery, the Museum of Arhangai Aimag, Taikhar Rock, and more.

These attractions exhibit traditional clothing, handmade artifacts, sculptures, ancient weapons, and religious relics. When visiting the mysterious Taikhar Rock just on the outskirts of Tsetserleg, we may have a chance to see locals doing religious rituals at the base.

With steep slats of granite climbing 25 meters high, this massive rock sticks out from its grassy surroundings in the basin of the Tamir River. Because of its puzzling origin and location, locals worship the rock as a deity.

Stay overnight in a ger camp. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner
DAY 4 Pure Water Lake
Early in the morning we will drive east towards the banks of Ugii Lake, an 8 kilometer long pure water lake about 70 kilometers from Kharkhorin. We will spend the whole day on the banks of the lake. You will have the chance to go fishing, boating, or even horseback riding.

Stay overnight in a local ger camp. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner
DAY 5
Khoshuu Tsaidam and Khar Balgas
After breakfast we will visit two very important historical sites: the Turkic monuments of Khoshuu Tsaidam and the Uyghur ruins of Khar Balgas. Later, we will drive to Kharkhorin then back to Ulaanbaatar.
